Carefree Cabins Review – Hocking Hills, OH (Sandstone Oasis)
Have you ever walked into a room and said to yourself, ‘I could live here’? Those were the exact words out of my husband’s mouth when we walked into Carefree Cabins Sandstone Oasis cabin in Hocking Hills, Ohio.
If you are near the Hocking Hills region and looking for a getaway, you need to look here.
The cabin exterior, the cabin interior and everything in between was in perfect condition. Nothing was out of place.
In fact, it was the perfect home-away-from-home.

Living Area
From the moment we pulled up to Sandstone Oasis, you could tell it was meticulously maintained. No detail was forgotten. Hopefully, these pictures do it justice!
When I started looking for a Hocking Hills cabin, I had a couple of must-haves. It needed to look like a log cabin and it had to have leather furniture. I can’t explain why – that’s just what I wanted.
I definitely found it here. Carefree Cabin’s Sandstone Oasis, as well as their other cabins, came out on the top of my list.
Walk in and it just feels like a home. Enter through the front door into the living area with its leather sofa, game table and stone fireplace.
Wifi is provided in addition to satellite TV service. We brought movies from home (there is a DVD player) and enjoyed just relaxing together in the evening.
Kitchen
The kitchen is everything you need in a compact space.
Dishwasher, stove, microwave, full-size refrigerator and even granite countertops.
Admittedly, I was nervous to use someone’s else’s dishes, so I brought paper and plastic ones for my family to use. However, upon arriving my fears melted away. You know that squeaky feel to just washed glasses? That’s how the dishes felt here.
The kitchen was stocked with everything you needed. Dishwashing soap, a scrubbing brush, dishwasher pods and a full array of pots, pans and cooking utensils.
A basket contained anti-bacterial wipes and hand sanitizer along with dish towels. I brought my own, but it was welcoming to see it was stocked here as well.
Okay, let’s talk details. This is what sets Carefree Cabins apart from others in my opinion.
Pull out the lazy Susan and see the variety of cooking spices available to use. In addition, coffee, filters and hot chocolate are provided which we took advantage of.
Check the top of the refrigerator and find a basket of grilling tools along with plastic plates and drinkware for outside use. This I didn’t expect and was pleasantly surprised at how much thought went into things. Plus, the grilling tools are made by Pampered Chef. I’m a former Pampered Chef consultant, so I know how awesome (and expensive) these tools are. In fact, mine are 20 years old and still look brand new (yes, they are used constantly).
Roasting s’mores? We planned on it but never ended up starting a fire. However, the roasting sticks are hanging on the wall.
Sunroom
In the mood to just relax? Take some time for yourself in the sunroom. Admittedly, my husband found me here each morning around 6am in the full body massage chair. I loved it! You pay $1 per minute at the mall for these chairs. I definitely took advantage of it here.
This is a place to relax. Just look at the buddha meditating. Also provided are adult coloring books and colored pencils. Made me wish I had a room like this at home.
Bathroom
Tucked next to the first-floor bedroom is the full bath with a separate shower and tub.
In addition, there is a stackable washer and dryer in the corner.
Do you like it warm when you come out of the shower? I definitely do and made sure to use the fan that blew out nothing but heat for some added warmth (yes, this was in the middle of summer).
Water temperature heated up nicely in the shower and never had an issue with water pressure. We never used the tub, so I could only assume it is the same.
Although a small shampoo and conditioner are provided, I suggest bringing your own. Depending on how many of you are showering, it gets used up quickly, plus it didn’t seem to lather too much.
Bedrooms
Carefree Cabins Sandstone Oasis sleeps 4 people. There is a main bedroom on the first floor, plus an open loft bedroom.
It’s a simple room but functioned perfectly for our use. Hang your clothes on the provided hangers, open your suitcase on the adorable wooden stand or use the drawers.
My daughter didn’t like the pitch blackness of the night, so we had one of the battery-operated candles on which provided a great nightlight for her.
Front Porch
Spend your mornings on the front porch drinking coffee and just enjoying the stillness. What a great start to the day (after the massage chair, of course).
A citronella candle and lighter is provided to keep any pesky bugs away.
Don’t forget to bring food and make use of the propane grill.
Outside
In the mood to sit by an open fire? Build one in your firepit with the wood provided free of charge.
We didn’t get around to starting one ourselves even though we brought all the fixings for s’mores (however, we still managed to eat the marshmallows and chocolate).
And my husband and daughter did make use of the hot tub! Beach towels are available in the sunroom which leads you directly out to the back patio.
Carefree Cabins Sandstone Oasis Summary
We loved our weekend away in Hocking Hills and this cabin was a large part of it. It was perfectly maintained, had everything we needed and it provided a much-needed respite.
Personally, I would love to visit in the winter as the snow is lightly falling and we’re sitting around the fire pit enjoying hot cocoa. Something more to look plan!
